COSY CLUB AND TURTLE BAY TO OPEN NEW RESTAURANTS IN DURHAM’S RIVERWALK DEVELOPMENT

– 04 July 2017 –
NATIONAL restaurant chain Cosy Club
is to open its first North-East venue next
year.

The company has announced plans to
open an “informal and family-friendly”
branch next year in The Riverwalk in
Durham. It follows an announcement
earlier this year that Caribbean restaurant
chain Turtle Bay and the Handmade
Burger Company are to open a venue in
the £30m redevelopment of The Gates
shopping centre in the city. Thai River
became the first restaurant to open in
The Riverwalk in December.

Cosy Club, which markets itself as
“mansion splendour meets village hall
eccentricity”, is to open a 5,300 sq ft first
floor restaurant on a 15-year lease.

Turtle Bay has signed a lease for a 4,700
sq ft restaurant on level two of the riverside
development.

Raj Manek, of Cosy Club, said: “We are
looking forward to opening our first Cosy
Club in the North East of England at
The Riverwalk.

“Having started out in Bristol in 2002, our
growth strategy will see us continue to
open over 20 new restaurants a year, in
locations across the length and breadth
of the UK.

Once completed, the Clearbell Capital
development will include a six-screen
Odeon cinema, 23 refurbished shops and
253 student accommodation rooms.

Nick Berry, Partner at Clearbell Capital
added: “Welcoming both Turtle Bay and
Cosy Club to The Riverwalk will allow us
to expand our retail and leisure offering in
Durham city centre and complement our
diverse tenant mix.

“This is an exciting time for Durham as we
continue to work on creating a truly
mixed-use centre that will cultivate the
local Durham economy and deliver
improvements to the city’s day and
night-time offering.”
